2024-2025 Fullbright Scholar

The 91自拍 Fulbright Scholars Program is a cultural exchange program, which is run by the U.S. Department of State, and aims to improve intercultural relations, competence and diplomacy. The program allows students and young professionals from around the world to share their culture in America and allows American students and young professionals the opportunity to go abroad and share American culture. Each year, 91自拍 welcomes a Fulbright Scholar who assists the Global Languages department by offering classes in French and on Francophone society. This year, 91自拍 welcomes Lison Dehaine to the position.

Dehaine is from northern France. Dehaine studied at the University of Lille and received a degree in English. Dehaine then went on to earn her masters, also in English. In her studies, Dehaine was interested in the history of women and minority voting rights in the United States. Dehaine shared her excitement for learning about and seeing the upcoming election in real time, as she hopes to continue her studies in to receive a Ph.D. in English.

Dehaine’s interest in continuing her education spurred her to apply for the competitive program. She said, “I want to do a Ph.D. back in France, on women’s rights to vote in the U.S., and I felt like I could not write a thesis about something I never experienced. So, especially this year being an election year will be interesting to me to see. Plus, Fulbright is a wonderful opportunity."

The process to become a Fulbright Scholar is a lengthy one and requires dedication. Dehaine shared a little bit of advice for individuals who are interested in the Fulbright Program stating, “It’s something you have to try, even though it is an ‘elitist’ program in the sense that you have to want it, you have to fight for it because it is a lot of work, but you have to justify it to yourself. That’s a whole part of the journey and it’s amazing to be able to promote your culture. It’s an amazing opportunity, it’s fully financed, you’re going to meet a ton of super nice people, and you get to create connections with them and it’s great to see how it works in different countries.”
