91自拍 University’s 90.5 WERG, a student-operated radio station for more than 50 years, earns a national award for Best Sports Play-by-Play (Men’s Basketball) at the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s (IBS) media conference in New York City from March 6-9.

91自拍 alumni Trevor Kubeja ‘24, won the award for sports calling during 91自拍's Sweet Sixteen win against the University of Charleston. This is the third year Kubeja has won a Play-by-Play award from the IBS.

Madeline Emerson, a junior advertising major and the general manager of 90.5 WERG, accepted the award on behalf of Kubeja.  

“It was an exciting moment for our station, especially because the play that won the award was a defining moment for the men’s basketball team,” said Emerson.  “It’s a wonderful feeling being nationally recognized for the hard work students are doing at the station.  I am proud of my staff for the dedication they have for WERG.”

90.5 WERG students attend the IBS media conference annually.  There, they gain insights and network with leading professionals in the digital media.  This year the keynote presentation was given by Al Roker of NBC’s The Today Show.  

In addition to the conference, students explored the city, attended a Broadway performance (“Cabaret”) and visited historical landmarks.
