91ΧΤΕΔ University’s applied intelligence program hosted its inaugural academic conference on Friday, Oct. 17, at the university’s I-HACK building.

The conference, titled “Frontiers: Bridging Academia and Practice in National Security, AML, Law Enforcement Intelligence, and Cyber Domains,” fostered dialogue among students, scholars and professionals working in intelligence studies, anti-money laundering (AML), cyber intelligence and law enforcement intelligence.

The day’s schedule featured a robust lineup of presentations and panel discussions led by intelligence practitioners, academics and students. Topics included cybercrime, the future of intelligence, national security and cyber espionage. 91ΧΤΕΔ students also presented research posters mapping various types of crime in the Erie region.

The conference’s keynote speaker was Jared Ott, director of the Financial Crimes Division at KPMG. Following his address, attendees participated in a roundtable discussion on financial intelligence, financial crimes and fraud prevention. Panelists include Bryan Chapman, AML sanctions advisor at PNC Bank, and Robert Ogum, senior customer success manager in the cyber intelligence division at Recorded Future, one of the world’s leading threat intelligence companies. The session was moderated by Orlandrew Danzell, Ph.D., director of 91ΧΤΕΔ’s graduate anti-money laundering program.

91ΧΤΕΔ launched its applied intelligence program in 2022 to prepare students with the analytical and technical skills needed to detect, mitigate and investigate real-world security threats.

“This conference brought together a diverse range of professionals and students to share their latest research and insights in this rapidly evolving field,” said Ben Baughman, Ph.D., director of the applied intelligence program at 91ΧΤΕΔ University. “Positioning 91ΧΤΕΔ as a hub for these conversations aligns perfectly with our mission to prepare innovative, strategic and policy-minded intelligence professionals — the future leaders of safety and security.”
